Rabies Outbreak on the Dog Meat Trader Hotspot

Terimakasih ~

Last week, new reports of rabies outbreaks were widely-reported in Indonesian media, with threats of widespread culling.
.
.
“The Health Ministry has said that from January to February this year, 628 people were infected with rabies nationwide, with at least 12 cases that turned fatal.”
.
North Sulawesi – a dog and cat meat trade “hot spot” – continues to have some of the highest numbers of human deaths attributed to rabies.

.
It is no coincidence that the provinces with the greatest demand for dog meat are also those with the highest prevalence of rabies, given that we have presented countless times the evidence, spanning decades, linking the dog meat trade to rabies transmission.
.
We will continue to condemn indiscriminate dog culls as a means to tackle rabies outbreaks as these are cruel and wholly ineffective, and continue to advocate for an immediate end to the dog meat trade, amongst other key components of effective rabies control and elimination efforts.
.
We will share more updates soon..
.
Thank you ~
