Sejarah Animal Friends Jogja

Hal Yang Kami Lakukan

History of Animal Friends Jogja

It all began with the awareness of six people living in Yogyakarta who work to eradicate animal suffering in their respective capacities in their communities. In early 2010, they gathered and decided to join in a vision and mission. The small group called themselves "Animal Friends Jogja", and created a non-profit organization committed to improving the welfare of animals in the community through proactive programs, especially through grassroots community education.

Animal Friends Jogja (AFJ) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization established to protect all animals in Indonesia. AFJ works in partnership with the Indonesian community and authorities to save animals from exploitation and to increase public awareness about animal welfare with educational programs as well as local and international campaigns and government advocacy programs.

The existence of AFJ in Yogyakarta serves as an information center where people can get information online about animals, including getting information about sterilization programs, adoption, how to help animals being rescued, reporting cases of cruelty to animals, treating injured animals and many other problems.

The AFJ shelter not only functions as a base for rescued animals but also as a meeting place for volunteers who are willing to help animals. Rescued animals, including dogs, cats and monkeys, are cared for in shelters until they can be reunited with foster families or adopted.

AFJ’s perspective is to see animal issues holistically, and instead of letting people dump their animal companions or the animals they find, AFJ tries to help people to care for these animals so they can stay with them, all while providing them with the information needed.
